Abstract :This presentation is on a new numerical model, Distinct Lattice Spring Model (DLSM), which is proposed based on the micro-structure based theory rather than classical elasticity. DLSM is different from the conventional lattice spring models in that a shear spring is introduced to model the multi-body force. The model has the advantages of being meshless, and automatic continuum description through underlying discontinuum structure and directly using macroscopic elastic parameters. The presentation will also include new developments of the model and the application of it on rock mechanics.
简   介:Dr Zhao is an Early Career Researcher (ECR) and was awarded his PhD in 2010. From 12th October 2007 to 24th September 2010 he was a PhD research assistant at Laboratoire de mecanique des roches (LMR) of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) and worked on stress wave propagation through rock masses and failure of rock under dynamic loads.
From 24th September 2010 to 30th December 2010 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at LMR EPFL on further application of DLSM on dynamic fracturing in rock, wave propagation and rock cutting by a tunnel boring machine. From 1st February 2011 to present, he has been a Lecturer (research only) in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The University of New South Wales (UNSW). In this role he is exploring new applications of Distinct Lattice Spring Model (DLSM) in rock, unsaturated soils and other multiphysical problems.
